Brick & Block Calculator
Estimate the number of standard bricks or blocks required for a wall based on dimensions and waste percentage.
How to Calculate Bricks and Blocks for a Wall
Estimating the right volume of masonry units required for a construction project prevents expensive material shortages or unnecessary surplus. By multiplying the total length and height of the wall surface area, you can easily determine square footage and convert it into specific brick or block counts.
Standard Coverage Rates
- Standard US Bricks: Generally average about 7 bricks per square foot (including mortar joints).
- Modular Bricks: Slightly smaller profile, averaging roughly 6.5 bricks per square foot.
- Cinder / Concrete Blocks: Larger structural units that cover approximately 1.12 blocks per square foot.
Why Include a Waste Allowance?
It is standard industry practice to include a 5% to 10% waste buffer to account for accidental breakages, cuts around corners, or structural adjustments during installation.
